2016 Spring Camporee

Good ol' Paul Bunyan was the inspiration for this year's Spring Camporee in Founders District. It was fitting because scouts were flipping flapjacks and sawing wood like there was no tomorrow. The leaders of Troop 888 and one of our Boy Scouts, Arthur Payne traveled to Woodstock, IL to help staff the event. Between the relaxing time in the brisk spring weather and the awesome tomahawk and throwing knife range, I would say the event was a huge success. Nobody got hurt, everyone had fun, and the troops attending cooked their hearts out in the dutch over cook-off. The event faded off into the evening with raging campfires and restful sleep for the journey home in the morning. Can't wait for the Fall when the theme is zombies, maybe Paul Bunyan will come back from the dead to pay the camporee another visit!

2016 Central Region Area 7 Venturing Conference

The Venturing program is known for always leaning towards doing more high adventure type of activities. While this conference was not the most adventurous venue it was an adventure like none other. On March 5th, 2016, the Men and Women of Venture Crew 2888 traveled out to Gurnee, IL to Key Lime Cove for a very fun day of training, games, funny photo taking, and some adventurous water park fun! The day started off with some interesting training about how the Venturing program works within the council and how to better our crews. Then we moved into some awesome activities like an epic sized game of rock-paper-scissors and indoor snowball fighting icebreakers. Lunch was delicious and revved us up for a presentation from the Lithuanian scouts. Upon wrapping up the conference the Venturers moved into the indoor water park for some adventurous fun with water and physics! All in all the day ended on a high note and with a couple goofy group photos.

2016 Klondike Derby

Wow would have never guessed that the scouts representing Troop 888 at the 2016 Founders District Klondike Derby would have won 2nd place! On February 20th, 2016 the men of Troop 888 woke up early to travel to Humboldt Park and take on the challenges set forth by the gold rush themed muddy and 50 degree Klondike Derby. (For those who don't know Klondike derby's are usually in the snow and thus the purpose for a sled normally.) Although the scouts had only had one 2 hour meeting's worth of preperation for this event, which little of that meeting had actually been spent practicing skills for this event, they managed to STRIKE IT RICH and bring home the 2nd place trophy of their very own gold pan and the collected "gold" from their events at the derby. Great job gentlemen! The Webelos Scouts of Pack 3888 also entered their own sled and den into the event but came up short of placing in the top three, the cubs had a load of fun preparing and building their sled and even more fun at the derby, although they did not walk away with bragging rights they did find a fair amount of gold while panning around the events at Humboldt Park and brought home their "gold" with them. Thanks for coming out!
